Proposal Outline

The name UNBUILT means not finished literally in the context of our proposal. It stresses the ever ongoing state or project as a reference to the background of Harringay Warehouse District: self-built community made by artists, makers, musicians and entrepreneurs.
To embody the idea of unbuilt, we use the form of a scaffold, contrasting to the term such as delicate, luxury, frills, etc to preserve the anti-gentrification anarchy of the area, which is the essence of the district.
Considering the area’s former role as a major rag trade employer, we choose the standard industrial products such as jack bases, ledgers, diagonal braces etc and fabric, woods, which are applicable to be assembled by the volunteers in a few days, disassembled and reused after the festival.
So the scaffold-like pavilion is going to be a manifesto against gentrification, elitism and consumerism. Its imperfection represents the imperfection of our society and ourselves. We need to work together to improve it little by little, like the unbuilt pavilion.
