Connection to Harringay Warehouse District

Harringay Warehouse District is a place of creativity and freedom. The Lantern Pavilion creates a welcoming entrance to the Harringay Warehouse community.

The modular zig-zag shaped structure is inspired by the district’s skyline.

The openness of “The Lantern” is a translation of the community’s identity, always ready to welcome new visitors. The high ceiling, the dynamic wooden structure, and the impermeable curtains allow creating different spaces flexible in its use.

“The Lantern” highlights the Harringay Warehouse District’s community and becomes a local symbol of hope and closeness, where different people can get inspired together.

Proposal Outline

Approach: By freeing up space in the ground-level we can explore new uses for the outdoor area.

Flexibility: It’s columns free, walls free and it can be fully open or fully closed through the use of impermeable curtains.

Structure: It’s a modular, efficient and easy assembly structure. It can be later disassembled and moved to another location for further use.

Sustainability: It’s entirely built out of wood – natural material and one of the most sustainable construction materials.

Greenery: It’s about getting fresh, biologic, local vegetables straight out of the groung – through a vertical urban farm system.

Curtains: It can be used as a device for art live performance, video shows, outdoor cinema or residents’ work display.

Vision: Pavillion as a space fot the community- where visitors can learn about HWD – where residents can display their work and share their love and passion.

Interpretation: Creative minds from different backgrounds will have a space to collaborate and get inspired from each other. “The Lantern” will be a space for ideas to be born, realized and later on displayed for the world to see.
