Connection to Harringay Warehouse District

The connection I hope the design portrays is that it is social, creative and adaptable these are the strongest feelings I get from the Harringay Warehouse District and its residents. I want to collaborate with the residents further to improve the design and to tailor it for specific requirements. I’ve left the design neutral in its pallet during the pavilion phase, It is my intent though that the floor, walls and ceiling begin to take on life and colour as events, meetings or markets occur. For the community to take license creative of the design after construction.

Proposal Outline

I do not offer a single proposal to fight against gentrification, I intend to show that with a strong design we can remove several issues that gentrification create. The proposal has 3 phases, the pavilion phase is a bold piece of architecture that bring the local community, national visitors and international journalists to a part of London in which an independent artistic group is taking a stand against the normality that is gentrification.

Porosity Pavilion was designed to create an open and yet rich interior space, to draw people into the heart of the space in which events and social gatherings can take place. To have overlapping events and spaces allow art, music and sport to materialise in a place that was otherwise void of life. The pavilion as an interior space will allow for a unique experience allowing the Residents of Harringay Warehouse District to perform and display artwork in a space that that is totally unique and would never be conceived as efficient by property developers and therefore not be constructed on a commercial basis.
The second phase is for the site to live on and become a space for the community to use like a park, the proposal leaves the site with a functioning skate park that can be managed by the Harringay Warehouse District, these ramps are small enough to invite the youngest and most amateur of skaters, roller skaters or bmx bikers.

The third phase is for the timber components to be dismantled and donated, these components can be re purposed as school play equipment and sheltered sitting areas. These timber components can also be used by Haringrigay Warehouse District as a covered bike shelter, smoking area or performance space

The result of this is that once an investment has been made by donation from local people and residents, they are in fact donating money towards the long term benefit of their community and in particular the lives of the youngest in our community and the ones usually thought of last in property developers concerns.
